Plasma is composed of a large number of electrons, ions, neutral atoms, excited atoms, photons, and free radicals, but because the number of electrons and positive ions are equal, the overall appearance is electrically neutral, so it is called "plasma" From the perspective of changes in the state of matter, plasma can be called the fourth state of matter.

Most of the plasmas used for VOCs removal belong to the category of low temperature plasmas. In the field of environmental protection, low-temperature plasmas can generally be generated by corona discharge, creeping discharge, and dielectric barrier discharge. Low-temperature plasmas generated by dielectric barrier discharge, glow discharge, corona discharge, and forehead discharge are used in the system. The temperature of electrons is as high as tens of thousands of degrees Celsius. When high-energy electrons collide with VOCs molecules, these volatile organic compound molecules are directly bombarded and degraded. With the occurrence of reactions such as excitation, ionization, dissociation, these VOCs The macromolecules are converted into non-toxic and harmless molecules such as H2O and C, thereby achieving purification effects.

Experiments and field verifications show that low-temperature plasma technology has a better purification effect on VOCs exhaust gas such as benzene, toluene, m-xylene, styrene, sulfide, and ammonia.

Under the action of an external electric field, the electrons obtain energy from the electric field and become high-energy electrons. These high-energy electrons are very fast. Active free radicals such as O and O and highly oxidizing O3, these radicals undergo a series of complex chemical reactions with harmful gas molecules, and finally produce harmless or low-hazard products.


The physical effect is manifested in that the plates have the function of charging and collecting dust. A large number of electrons in the plasma collide with particles and cause inelastic collision and adhere to the surface to charge them. The biological effect is manifested in the effect of sterilization.
